EDUCATION & OUTREACH

Senior Citizen Movement Workshops

Detroit Metropolitan Dance partners with senior living communities to provide Gentle Movement Workshops that encourage mobility, creativity, wellness, and meaningful social connection through accessible movement and music. Led by professional teaching artists and company dancers, each workshop is thoughtfully adapted to accommodate a variety of mobility levels and physical abilities. Activities may include gentle seated and/or standing movement, stretching, range-of-motion exercises, rhythm and musical engagement, creative movement exploration, and opportunities that foster confidence, joy, and overall well-being. These workshops are recreational and educational in nature and are not intended to provide medical treatment, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or other healthcare services. GRIT: The Dancer’s Core

A movement and mindset workshop developed to help dancers cultivate the inner strength that fuels artistry and longevity in the field. Rooted in both physical practice and reflective journaling and discussion, this workshop explores how Grace, Resilience, Integrity, and Tenacity form the foundation of sustainable, empowered dance careers.

Through guided movement, journaling, and group conversation, participants will identify how these four pillars show up in their training, performance, and personal growth—transforming challenges into opportunities for artistry.
